      <title>Touhey's homer lifts M-E in softball semifinal</title>
      <link>http://www.softballshowcase.com/player/news/3661?post=5150</link>
<description>Junior Megan Touhey led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a home run to right-center field, lifting the Maine-Endwell softball team to a 1-0 win over visiting Johnson City in a Section 4 Class A semifinal on Wednesday afternoon.

The top-seeded Spartans (20-3) advance to face second-seeded Corning West (20-4) in the sectional title game at 2 p.m. Saturday at the BAGSAI Complex in Nimmonsburg.

Senior pitcher Nicole Osovski earned the win, firing a two-hit shutout. She struck out 11 and walked two over nine innings, outdueling JC's Jess Micha, who was also strong with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Micha helped push the game into extra innings, working out of a jam in the second, when M-E had runners on second and third with no out, and then again in the eighth, when M-E had the bases loaded with one out.

M-E coach Todd Kariam credited the job both defenses did, and he highlighted a key play for the Spartans in the top of the seventh.

JC had a runner on second with one out, but on the ensuing ground ball to third, M-E's Erin Sullivan threw out the batter at first, and then Kaitlyn Harris fired back across the diamond to get the lead runner at third.

Two innings later, Touhey accounted for the lone run with her third homer of the season.

Catcher Stacey Fox had both JC hits, a pair of singles. And M-E's Osovski and Amber McGlynn each went 2-for-4.

Kuzel finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and she came through with two-run singles in both the first and third innings as the fourth-seeded Wildcats (12-10) scored five runs in each en route to an 11-0 lead through three innings.
Chelsey West also helped lead the JC attack, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Winning pitcher Jess Micha struck out seven and allowed four runs on five hits for the Wildcats, who move on to face top-seeded Maine-Endwell on Wednesday in the semifinals.

East (7-16) entered as the No. 5 seed.
