 | Busy Camp Weekend
1,000 mile round trip and was worth it!
I would like to thank the coaches and players for the camps I attended this past weekend. First stop was Evansville University and then on to Miami University.
I also would like to thank my catcher for taking her day out to catch me.
Both campuses were great! From both camps I gained new things for my game to take back home!
I am so glad I did it!

The sophomore is 10-5 with a 1.21 ERA. She struck out 84 batters in 87 innings and only walked nine. Offensively, she batted .268 with 7 doubles, 2 home runs, 16 RBI and 15 runs. "Solid, complete pitcher, knows when to mix it up and always gets the job done, defensively and offensively," St. Charles North coach April Stary said. "Poised and confident and in control when she steps on the mound. Ton of power... can and does hit to gaps for extra bases, true power hitter. Great kid and has nowhere to go but up in the next few years."

ROSELLE -- St. Charles North came away with a thrilling victory Saturday, thanks to some timely hitting and its usual great pitching, as the North Stars topped the host Lancers 3-2 in nine innings to win the Lake Park Class 4A Regional title.
After both teams went down in order in the eighth, Ashley Seering crushed the first pitch that she saw in the top of the ninth for a double. She then scored when Amanda Ciran's ground ball went through the legs of Lancers shortstop Sarah Koch, giving North a 3-2 lead, and the eventual win.

Sophomore-dominated St. Charles North continues to impress.
The North Stars won their first softball conference championship in program history this season, and the squad made quick work of Geneva Thursday afternoon at the Class 4A Lake Park regional semifinal in Roselle.

| St. Charles North softball smacks three home runs in win
The St. Charles North softball team has been content to slap and go on offense in recent seasons, but things have changed this year.
North all of the sudden is slugging, and slugging at a record pace. Monday's 15-3 Upstate Eight Conference win at Larkin featured the first three home-run game in program history while giving the team a single-season record seven round-trippers.
"For us that's a little bit out of the ordinary, but definitely nice," North Stars coach April Stary said. "Everyone under the sun was just on fire today."

You can't fault the logic of Lake Park softball coach Tom Mazzie.
"No one's ever won a game without scoring a run," he said Tuesday in the dugout at St. Charles North.
The North Stars had a lot to do with that.
Between a complete-game shutout by right-hander Amanda Ciran and spotless defense behind her, St. Charles North won a key Upstate Eight contest 3-0.

| Ciran allows 3 hits as St. Charles North knocks off Bartlett
The North Stars certainly were on the upside Friday. Amanda Ciran fired a 3-hitter and Annie Korth and Ashley Seering hit solo home runs to propel the offense.
"Annie Korth has it but we don't always expect it," Coach Stary said. "With Ashley in the 4-5 spot we expect it from her."
Stary and the North Stars have also come to expect the type of pitching performance they got from Ciran Friday. She struck out five and although she walked six, Bartlett (11-10, 4-6) could manage just 3 singles and left 8 runners on base.

| St. Charles North Stars' Sophomores Seem Super
If Monday's game was any indication, the future of St. Charles North's softball program appears to be in great shape.
It's not looking too shabby right now, either.
Starting an all-sophomore lineup, the North Stars (10-5) received a power pitching performance from Amanda Ciran and scratched across a fifth-inning run on a 2-out double from Loren Cihlar during their 1-0 nonconference triumph over host Geneva (8-10).
Ciran (2-4), who fired a 3-hitter, displayed pinpoint control without issuing a walk while striking out 12.

St. Charles North's Amanda Ciran smiles in the dugout after her sixth inning homer during her team's 7-1 win over Larkin on Wednesday.
Ciran put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth by sending a first-pitch fastball over the left-field fence for a 2 run homerun to put North up 7-1.
"It felt really good 'cause I've been getting my groove back," said Ciran, who was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. "Maybe it's something about this school because I had another one against them last season."

St. Charles North’s defense is predicated on having 60-mph-plus pitchers; Amanda Ciran (So) and Amanda Engel (Jr), denying right-handed batters from pulling the ball. As a result, the right side of the field sees quite a bit more action than the typical diamond.

| Peer Leadership Representative
Amanda Ciran was reccommended and selected to St. Charles North High School's Peer Leadership program.
This is a "big brother/big sister" style mentoring program that matches incoming freshmen with an upperclassmen. Groups of ten "matches" meet daily during lunch hours for lunch, team building, exploring current issues related to being a teenager, and fun.
The position will start next fall when school begins for 2009-2010. But preparation begins this spring. |

The 25th Annual Dan Gibbons Turkey trot held on Thanksgiving morning was unbeleivable! So many people showed up to support the Chicago Anti Hunger Federation. It was an amazing experience and I can't wait to do again it next year! |
| 25th Annual Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot
Amanda Ciran will be running in the 25th Annual Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot.
The Annual Dan Gibbons Turkey Trot exists to support the food pantries of the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation, the homeless shelters of Dupage PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter), and needy families and seniors identified by the United Community Concerns Association.
The Turkey Trot is a three mile run on Thanksgiving morning.

Amanda will be wearing the neon colors of the Lemont Rockers; home of the 18U ASA National Champs! Amanda is very excited to be a part of this organization.
The Lemont Rockers RB will be appearing in the "Homer Hawks NFCA Chicagoland Extravaganza Tournament" in Elgin, Illinois, October 10th-12th. (NFCA camp on the 10th) As well as the "St. Louis College Exposure Tournament" - October 31st, through November 2nd. |

ACHIEVEMENTS Ciran was one of four effective pitchers for St. Charles North. Combined with Amanda Engel, she gave the North Stars no reason to declare just one ace. In Ciran’s 18 appearances, she fashioned a 9-3 record with two saves. A skilled finesse pitcher, the freshman retired the last 19 Geneva batters in order in the regional semifinals. Ciran also ranked second on the team with 17 RBIs and had four doubles.

Amanda Ciran was an inning short of perfection.
The St. Charles North freshman hurler surrendered three first-inning hits to Geneva, but it was all the Vikings softball team would muster Tuesday afternoon.
Ciran retired the final 19 batters in succession and capped the North Stars' 3-run fourth inning with a 2-run single to lead St. Charles North past the Vikings 4-1 in semifinal action of the Class 4A Geneva regional.

| Frosh 5 fueling North's rise
Amanda Ciran cuts an imposing figure in the pitcher’s circle. At 5-foot-10, she attacks hitters with power, topping out at about 62 mph, and racks up strikeouts en masse.
She also is a 14-year-old freshman.
“She’s frightening sometimes,” said her coach, St. Charles North’s April Stary. “And then she smiles, and her little dimples come out, and then it’s all shot.”

Youngsters Pitch N. Stars to sweep of Rosary
A pair of Amandas -- Engel and Ciran, two underclass pitchers on the St. Charles North softball team -- combined for 19 strikeouts against nonconference Rosary in a doubleheader sweep in Aurora.
Engel, the sophomore, struck out 9 in the 2-1 win in Game 1 and Ciran, the freshman, fanned 10 in the 6-3 victory over the Royals in Game 2 Saturday
"Aside from (West Aurora pitcher Sam) Arenkill, (Ciran) is the best pitcher we've faced this season," Rosary coach Tara Tattersall said.
