 | 5th Place at ASA 14A Nationals
The Vipers made a run at 14U ASA/USA Nationals. Finishing 5th in a field of 122 of the best teams in the country, the Vipers made a case that they belong with the elite teams in the country.
The Vipers finished pool play 2-0, earning a #1 seed. In bracket play, the Vipers went 6-2 with two, tough, 1-run losses (to the other 5th and 3rd place teams). Our goal was to win it and we made a run at it, coming up a little short. Our chances presented themselves, but we were not able to capitalize on the opportunities that would have put us in the "show". Nevertheless, we are SO proud... |

By STUART CROSBY

PEACHTREE CITY — Northgate used an extra-inning victory in a rematch against Alexander to catapult the Lady Vikings to a second-place finish in the Region 5-AAAAA tournament, which concluded Friday.
Northgate now opens the Class AAAA state tournament on Tuesday at home against Loganville, the No. 3 seed from Region 8-AAAA.
The Lady Vikings advanced to Friday’s region championship with a 3-1 win over Alexander, before falling 1-0 in the title game to Whitewater, who scored the only run of the game in the first inning.

FAYETTEVILLE -- Northgate's softball team survived a wild day that saw the Lady Vikings finish 2-1 over three Region 5-AAAA tournament games at two different venues, earning a Class AAAA state-playoff berth and a rematch today with Alexander.
The Lady Cougars came away with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Northgate 5-4 in Thursday's opener at Whitewater High.
Northgate will play Alexander at 4 p.m., at McIntosh.
The Lady Vikings rallied in the second game as they traveled down the road in Fayetteville to Starr's Mill, and defeated the McIntosh Chiefs 4-1 to... |
 | Northgate reigns on Douglas County
VILLA RICA -- If the muddy field conditions had any effect on the Northgate Lady Vikings in their Region 5-AAAA Tournament contest with the Douglas County Lady Tigers Tuesday night, they never showed it.
Ashley Anderson, Kysoo Kerkes and Ansley Smith had three hits apiece and Northgate scored in every inning to support a two-hit pitching effort from Anderson in an 8-0 victory at the Villa Rica V-Plex in five innings.
The Lady Vikings (16-5) will play the Alexander Lady Cougars today at 4 p.m., in a winner's bracket game and due to the alteration in scheduling due to the Monday... |
 | Marist edges Lady Vikings, 1-0
If not for a passed ball in the first inning, they might still be playing.
The Marist War Eagles, defending Quad A state champions from last year, took advantage of a Northgate miscue in the top of the initial frame to score the game's only run and came away with a 1-0 win Monday afternoon at the Lady Vikings' field.
"It's all right," said Northgate coach Lisa Skelton, not happy with the loss, but that her team played well.
"It gave us a chance to see who we'll be playing later," she said alluding to the possibility of the two teams playing again down the road in the playoffs... |
