Raven King signs NLI with Ohio University
I'm done and so happy! I went to Ohio University on a recruiting trip a couple weeks ago and I loved the school, loved the coach, loved the players and just pretty much felt like it was the right place for me. So I signed a letter of intent on the first day of signing at a party at my school with my softball and soccer teammates watching. It was so awesome! Everything turned out perfect! I am going to leave everything up on my site here like it was when I made my decision so that's why I'm...
LPHS Softball Coach Forsey Endorses Raven King
To Whom It May Concern: I am writing this letter as a letter of recommendation for Raven King. I would highly recommend her to your institution. She would be an excellent asset to your softball program, as well as to the school with her high academics. I have known and worked with Raven for the past four years. She has helped the Lone Peak Softball Team immensely with her skills in several areas. She is a team player and team leader and is very willing to learn and adapt to new situations...
Pegasus 18U Surf City Schedule 10-17 and 10-18
So after 4 weeks in a boot to let my ankle heal I am right back in the middle of it all again. The first round of high school soccer play-offs start Tuesday and the second round is on Thursday. Then we hop in the car and drive down to sunny California for softball games on Saturday and Sunday before driving back to be at school on Monday. It has been one of those super busy kind of years. Nine of my summer Pegasus teammates are freshman in college right now so I will be joining the younger...
Raven King back in the game!
I'm really excited that I got cleared to start practicing again today. I have been nursing a mild LisFranc's sprain of my left foot and have been faithfully wearing a boot for the last three weeks. The patience has paid off and the boot is now gone. I have to work my way back in to things over the next week or so, but I'm cleared to start practicing and playing again. I'm pretty excited but I know I have to be careful and take it slowly. But this means that I should be in action with Utah...
Raven King on the mend
Okay, it's been nearly a month since I've posted an update. I'll try and explain why but the short story is that I'm recovering from a mild LisFranc's sprain. On the Tuesday after my last post we beat Pleasant Grove and everything was fine, but in the first few minutes of the Brighton game two days later I jumped up and deflected a shot over the goal and when I came down my whole left foot went totally numb. They pulled me out a couple of minutes later because I couldn't hardly walk. Next...
Raven King - HS soccer update - October softball plans
I'm pretty beat up. The top of my right foot is sore from punting, the bottom of my left foot hurts and I don't know why, my ribs are bruised, my back is sore and my throat is swollen inside and out. It has been a season of elbows, knees, and sucker punches so far and we are only half way finished. I am playing what I expect to be my last competitive soccer season after playing since I was 5. I am the starting goal keeper for the 3rd straight year at Lone Peak but this year has been tougher...
Raven King will be at the adidas Futures National Camp
I will be attending the 2009 adidas Futures Camp in a couple of weeks Aug 21 to Aug 23 at St. George, Utah. The camp is by invitation only so I am pretty excited to be selected as one of 100 participants.
Good-bye for now to Pegasus; Hello HS soccer
I got home from USA-ASA Nationals on Sunday night and Monday morning I got up and headed to the high school for soccer try-outs. I've played soccer since I was 5 and just felt like I needed to finish my senior year. Hell week is Hell week. We have a practice in the morning and another practice at night for five days in a row and we run and sprint about 3-4 miles each practice (no exaggeration!). I've been an All-State goal keeper for the last two years so it wasn't a suprise when I made the...
Pegasus 5th at USA-ASA Nationals; Raven hits 500
Well, we finished 5th out of 139 teams. Just like it was in 2005 when I played on a team that finished 4th in Nationals, the finish always sounds impressive but the last loss remains as a source of irritation. We ended up losing to Florida Demarini 3-5 in a game where we gave up 3 runs in the first inning on three errors. I had a two run homerun in my second at bat to make it 3-4 but we never got any closer than that. It was our fourth game of the day in the Las Vegas heat. Every day was...
Raven King goes five of six on Friday at USA-ASA Nationals
Las Vegas - Raven King went five of six at the plate for Pegasus scoring all five times she got on base in Friday's games. Down 0-1 against the Lady Louisville Sluggers of Kentucky, teammate Maddie Robb hit a two run shot to put Pegasus ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the 5th inning. Raven followed her teammate with a solo shot to make it 3-1. The Lady Sluggers came back to take the lead 5-4 in the top of the sixth before Pegasus exploaded for another 5 runs and hung on to win the game 10-5...
Pegasus still undefeated in USA-ASA Nationals
We drew SoCal Artesia Punishers in the first round of the play-off bracket and beat them 7 to 4 last night. I got to see my old friend Dana Garcia who plays for the Punishers and we talked after the game. I was hoping we'd run into each other a little later in the tournament, but what are you going to do? I didn't start but came into the game midway and had a single and some plays at first. Today we played the Georgia Bandits and they didn't have one of their better days... we won 15-0 in...
Pegasus wins pool in USA-ASA Nationals; Raven homers
We won our pool by beating teams from California and Nebraska by scores of 10-2 and 8-4 respectively. I pitched the first four innings of the first game before Jachim closed out the game for me. I only got up twice but hit the ball hard in both at bats having a gap line drive base hit stolen on a really good play by the right fielder. In my last at bat I hit a line drive right at the third baseman that she caught. It was 109 degrees, so we were just happy to get the win and get out of the...
Pegasus wins Gold Bracket at Triple Crown World Series
We captured the World Series title with 8-5 and 9-1 wins over Utah rival Bad to the Bone in Park City today. I picked up the win in the first game but did not bat. In the second game I played first base and had an RBI two-out double. It seems like everywhere we go we eventually run into the Salt Lake City Flames (who won the 16U Gold bracket today) or Bad to the Bone (who finished 2nd to us in the Copper Classic and ASA State Championship). We will be heading to Las Vegas to the ASA/USA...
Pegasus 7-0 in Gold bracket play at TCS World Series
Gold Bracket play started today and the competition got tougher as only the top two teams from nine pools make it to the Gold Bracket. After posting a perfect 4-0 record in pool play on Tuesday and Wednesday, we started the day with a familiar tough opponent Utah Shock. We beat them 2-0. They are always tough. We then faced a pretty tough pitcher and Arizona Power team but we beat them 2-0 as well. Then we finished the day against Colorado Comets. An early home run put us down 1-3 in the...
Pegasus wins Firecracker; Begin play in TCS World Series
We won the Salt Lake Firecracker over the weekend with a perfect 6-0 record. We beat the Flames in the semi-finals, then Bad to the Bone in the winner’s bracket game, then the Flames again in the championship. I pitched one game early Saturday morning that we won pretty easily, then pretty much finished the day at 1st base. We ended up playing four games on Saturday and it was over 100 degrees. This week we play in the Triple Crown World Series starting Tuesday, July 21st. I play in an...
Pegasus 18U wins State Accelerated Championship; King contributes with three home runs
Utah Pegasus 18U successfully defended their Utah ASA 18U Accelerated State Championship on Saturday by defeating Bad to the Bone 5-3 in seven innings to finish with a perfect 6-0 record in the tournament. Raven King contributed with three home runs and some key defensive plays at first base in the tournament run which featured some tough games against some highly experienced opponents. Pegasus plays in the Salt Lake Firecracker this weekend as a final warm-up for the Park City Triple Crown...
King lifts Pegasus over Flames with solo shot 1-0
The last time Raven King played with her Utah Pegasus teammates in league play, her solo homerun in the final inning sealed a 4-3 victory over Utah Pegasus 16U. On Tuesday, July 7th, Raven did it again against the Salt Lake Flames. Nursing a sore hamstring, King started the game at first and was buried in the 8th spot in the Pegasus line-up. In what would prove to be her only at bat in the game, Raven was hit in the wrist on a 3-2 count and after shaking it off she headed for first. But...
Raven King chosen for 2009 Adidas Futures Top 100
Raven King and Utah Pegasus teammate Brittany McCray have been selected to attend the 2009 Adidas Futures Top 100 in St. George, Utah which will take place August 21st - 23rd.
Pegasus wins pool and goes 6-1 in Louisville before rain-out
Utah Pegasus 18U won pool P in the Louisville Slugger Tournament in Colorado before the tournament was cancelled due to rain. Thursday's first game ended in a disappointing loss to Tennessee Fury 2-4 but Pegasus rebounded later that night to beat CA American Athletics 3-1 and capture first place in pool P with a 5-1 record. Raven King had several key plays at first base in the victory including a long stretch on a key double play, an impressive back handed dig from behind the bag for an out...
Raven King hitting 500 in first four games of Louisville Slugger
Louisville, CO. Utah Pegasus is a perfect 4-0 after the second day of pool play having beaten some tough opponents. On day one Pegasus beat Texas Storm 9-1 and New Jersey East Coast Elite 4-2. On day two Pegasus posted wins against Oklahoma Tulsa Elite Gold 4-3 and NorCal Shockers 4-0. Raven King posted two saves pitching the last two innings against the East Coast Elite and the Tulsa Elite Gold. She played first base in the other two games and has gone 5 for 10 at the plate with a double...
Raven King homers to lift Twisters to Boise Blast Championship
Raven King helped her old Utah Twister teammates win the Triple Crown Boise Blast 16U championship the weekend before traveling to the Colorado Louisville Slugger Tournament. After losing for the first time in the tournament in the last winner's bracket game rather handily to the Magic Valley Sooners, the Twisters rebounded from the loser's bracket to beat the Sooners 3-0 forcing a second game. Unfortunately for the Sooners, other commitments made it impossible for them to continue to play a...
Raven King slams door on Pegasus 16U with final home run
Pegasus 18U got a run for their money from their 16U counterparts in league play. The 16U team refused to give in to their older sister team down 2-3 with runners threatening when Raven King was brought in to relieve Desiree Laswell in the circle. The 16U squad was able to cash in another run to tie the game at 3 before Raven was able to navigate her teammates out of the inning. But Raven answered quickly and reversed the momentum when she lead off the top of the final inning with a powerful...

2009 ALL-VALLEY SOFTBALL TEAM
Utah Valley Player of the Year: Katelyn Elliott, Spanish Fork Pitcher of the year: Angie Mikalauski, Pleasant Grove She could command a game with her ability to keep opponents off balance and hit her spots. Offensive MVP: Kylee Brinkerhoff, Spanish Fork A terror at the plate, she hit .548 for the year and drove in 38 runs for the Dons. Defensive MVP: Alexis Bushman, Payson A leader on the field and an exceptional fielder, she rarely made mistakes went the ball came her way...
Raven King named 2009 Lone Peak MVP
After two consecutive years as the Varsity Offensive MVP, junior Raven was named Lone Peak HS Varsity MVP for the 2009 season. Lone Peak finished with a 10-12 record and one spot out of the state play-offs in spite of impressive victories over teams such as Hunter and 3A State Champion Bear River. Raven recorded 144 strike-outs in the circle in 109 innings. She also added an additional 61 put-outs and assists from the field, and had the team's highest batting average and on base percentage...
Lone Peak finishes at 10-12
Well, after going 8-6 before Easter break and having only really been soundly beaten in just one game, we came back and went 2-6 and got solidly beat in three games. We finished fourth in our region but didn't make the State play-offs for a second year in a row. On the bright side, I had a pretty good season in the circle and gained some pretty strong confidence there. My rise and curve are working really well but my drop and change need to be a little more consistent. My screwball needs...
Lone Peak loses to top-ranked PG in a close one
4-4-09 We were mostly snowed out or rained out over the past two weeks. We played one game against undefeated Pleasant Grove on Thursday in between snow storms and lost 0-3 in the rain. The newspaper reported that it was 42 degrees at the game. I struck out 10, walked 4, and gave up 3 hits in six innings. We only committed two errors but the second one ended up costing us. The damage was done in the bottom of the 5th when we started the inning with a bobbled ground ball at first base. That...
Raven King improves ACT score to 27!
Well I'm feeling a lot better about my ACT results. I took the test last December and was pretty shocked and disappointed with my score of 24 overall. I know 24 isn't something to be ashamed of, it's just that I take lots of Honors and AP classes and my sister who is 13 months older than me scored 31 twice. So, yeah, there's a bit of a competition there. I'm still not close to 31, but I'm pretty happy with 27. I'll take the test again in the Fall just to see if I can improve some more. The...
Raven collects three wins and a no decision in five days.
4-11-09 Well, after the high of beating Hunter on Monday, we blew a 2-0 lead in the top of the 6th on Tuesday against Lehi. A ground ball to second got bobbled, tossed to first, and dropped that would have ended the inning gave Lehi the room they needed to pull even. A walk and an infield mental error later the damage was done on a two out double that tied the game. I got the third out and retired them in the top of the 7th and we had a chance to win in the bottom of the 7th but couldn't get...
King leads Knights to big win over Hunter
4-6-09 We played away at 6-3 Hunter who had a big 2-0 win over number one Bingham last week and we won 4-0. We were feeling a little down before the game when McKenzie (who plays short and hits 4th) showed up to the team lunch on crutches. Playing at Hunter is always tough because they have pretty big crowds and lots of the boys hang out and make fun of you and get in your face all game, and missing a key player wasn't going to make it any easier. So with Kenize out, Coach Forsey moved me...
Raven King shuts out Bear River
After two frustrating losses Friday morning to Murray and Olympus, I took the mound for a third time and shut-out Bear River 2-0 in seven innings. It was obviously the highlight of the day. The day started off pretty good against 4A powerhouse Murray. We were only down 2-1 in the bottom of the 4th when I got hit on the finger tips of my pitching hand with a line drive. I picked up the ball and got the out at first but I couldn't even feel my fingers which had blood blisters on the tips by...
Raven King strikes out 23 in first 11 innings and gets 2 wins.
So the first week is over and we won 2 and lost 1. The first game against Orem got suspended due to a snow storm in the first inning on Monday. So our first full game was against Mountain View on Wednesday. We beat them 11-1 in six innings. I gave up just one hit and struck out ten... the run coming on an error and a couple of mistakes. I had a high fever and the shakes by the end of the game and even missed school the next day with the Flu. That night I had to finish the Orem game which...
Raven King Hits the Winter 2008 College Softball Camps
It was a pretty busy winter. I started by attending a two day camp at the University of Utah, then I went to a two day camp at Salt Lake Community College a week later. Then two weeks later I went to a two day camp at Utah State and I finished with a one day Showcase camp at Cal State Long Beach. It was a lot of fun working with the players and coaches from the different schools and I learned a lot about the techniques they use and how the coaches run things. It was a great way to get to know...
Raven King Posts 2009 HS Softball Schedule
In what is arguably is going to be the toughest year of my high school career, we are planning for a break-out season that will put us back into the State 5A play-offs. Monday, 3/9 Orem at Lone Peak 3:30PM Wednesday, 3/11 Mountain View at Lone Peak 3:30PM Friday, 3/13 Union at Lone Peak 3:30PM Wednesday, 3/18 Alta at Lone Peak 3:30PM Friday, 3/20 in St George 8AM, 10AM, 6PM Saturday, 3/21 in St George 12PM, 4PM Tuesday, 3/24 at Hunter 3:30PM Thursday, 3/26 Spanish Fork at Lone Peak 4PM...
Raven King attends the Campbell-Cartier Tournament at SDSU
I took advantage of a family event in San Diego last weekend and got to see some great softball. We were in San Diego for my cousin Austin's graduation from the Marines and so I was able to talk my parents into staying in San Diego an extra day and watch some great softball. We got to watch Stanford, Washington, Cal State Long Beach, UC Santa Barbara, San Diego State and Utah State all play each other. It was awesome! UC Santa Barbara was a suprise as they were pretty good and I had never...
