It came down to the wire
In the cross town rival between Caldwell and Vallivue the game could of gone either way.Bottom of the seventh Vallivue was ahead 4 to 3 but Vallivue's defence has been plagued with late inning errors all season. Caldwell loaded up the bases on five errors. Vallivue's pitcher Makayla Cox made an outstanding play at home for the second out of the inning. Caldwell made a substitution and put in one of their best clutch hitter, but she was no match for Valivue's ace who took her down in three pitches to seal the win for Vallivue. The winning pitcher Makayla Cox had 13k's and 1 walk and help...
Close game but we came up short 4 to 2
We are still struggling as a team, but I had a good defensive night with six strike outs eight additional outs from the pitcher mound, two double plays and one pick off at third. We had runners on base; we just couldn’t come up with that one hit to score our base runners.
Treasure Valley Umpires Clinic
I was asked to volunteer at the Annual Umpire’s Clinic. There were fifteen experienced umpires and thirty-five first time and second year umpires. I got to throw for almost two hours mainly movement pitches. It was a little freaky to have five umpires at a time behind the plate. I just knew I was going to throw a wild pitch and at least get one of them. I don’t know who had more fun, me or the Head Umpire making the new umpires flinch.
Linfield Wildcats softball clinical Feb 6th
The clinical instruction will be provided by the coaches and players of the Linfield Wildcats, the 2007 NCAA Division III National Champions. The Linfield College softball program and the Wildcats coaching staff have compiled six consecutive Northwest Conference Championships, 5 National Top 15 Finishes, and an overall record of 227-48-1 since 2004.
2010 Made For Excellence Conference.
Just came back from a two day Advanced Leadership Development Conference for F.F.A. I learned a lot, made some new friends, and my roommate was hilarious. The conference was half class room learning, and leadership and team building skills. I don’t want to brag but our team rocked the skit.
Boise State 2009 Fall softball camp. Nov 7th & 8th

2009 Boise National College Fair.
Tomorrow I get to participate in my first college recruiting fair. 110 colleges have already signed up to participate. I’m signed up to take three seminars. NCAA Eligibility and Recruitment for the college bound athlete. Strategies for a successful freshman year. The college essay and interview putting your best foot forward.
Took my PSAT over the weekend.
The PSAT test was not as intimidating as everybody made it sound. I wish I would have brushed up on my geometry a little more. But that won’t happen next time, and I even like geometry.
We knew it was going to be tuff.
We took off for Las Vegas without three of our starters the catcher, third basemen and our second basemen. But that was only the beginning we lost our shortstop in the second game to a pulled hamstring for the rest of the tournament. The right fielder reinjured her foot and lost her for Sunday and our first basemen slide into home and fractured her ankle. Without six starters we struggled hitting and our defensive looked like the bad news bears at times. We somehow pulled it together with people playing out of position and some times a new position for the first time. We strung a few hits together...
My other Passion!
Softball is a team sport but 4-H and FFA gives me the opportunity to excel as an individual. This is my favorite doe Haley and at the 2009 Western Idaho State Fair she was the Grand Champion Best of Breed, Best udder of Breed, Grand Champion Best in Show, Best Udder of Show, 1st place Dam & Daughter and 1st place Breeders Trio. It’s not only fun to own a top quality animal but also to improve the next generation through a quality breeding program. Haley and I also won the FFA Grand Champion Showman and The Western Idaho Statesman Award.
Sooner Summer Recap
Western Nationals Champions undefeated. State Champions undefeated. Colorado Sparkler 4th place gold bracket. Boise Blast had to forfeit Championship game to catch flight too Colorado. Brigham City Champions undefeated. Gal’s Live Wire Tournament Champions undefeated. Copper Classic Champions undefeated.
Magic Valley Sooners win Western Nationals undefeated.
Sooners dominate the competition in the week long tournament by a total score of 61 to 7. The Sooner pitching staff kept the batters off balance and what few batters did get on base the defense keeps them from advancing. Only two teams Downey and the Waves were able to score on the Sooners while five teams were held scoreless.
Sooners try to repeat as Western National Champions.
First game July 29th at 8:00 AM against La Canada at the Big 8 Sports Complex. 2nd game at 2:00 PM against the Valley Invasion also at the Big 8 Sports Complex. Come and be apart of the Sooner Nation.
Magic Valley Sooners 16U State Champions
Sooners win the State Championship undefeated only allowing three runs the entire tournament. The Sooner also earns another berth to ASA Nationals. The Sooners are the defending 2008 Western National Champions.
The Sooners have a successful run at the Colorado Sparkler
The Magic Valley Sooners finished forth in the Gold Bracket out of 167 teams. The Sooners finish the week with an 8-2 record only allowing one run in the first six games.

47 degrees and pouring rain and they let us play away, Yea!!
With poor weather conditions we saw an increase of wild pitches. Pitch selection was the key for success today. Makayla Cox hit a laser shot three run homerun in the bottom of the fourth for Vallivue. A mixture of small ball, seem to be successful for both teams in a seesaw battle of mud and rain. Makayla ended the game with a 2 RBI double to defeat Meridian in the first game of districts.
Vallivue takes the 2nd win over a strong Mountain View team.
Makayla Cox ties up the game with a RBI triple. Going into the bottom of the 7th teammate Celsey Shipley leads off with a base hit followed by a terrific bunt from Stephanie Krantz to score the winning run. Makayla controlled the Mountain View hitters with 14 K’s in the circle and helped the defense by picking the lead runner at second and throwing two other runners out at first.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rocky Mountain player who broke her ankle sliding into second.
A night off from the circle Makayla is still able to help her team secure their win against Rocky Mountain with great defense at 2nd base. Struggling as a team at the plate; Makayla drives one into the fence for a triple and single hops another over the fence and teammate Amada Gamble hits a solo out of the park home run to spark the bats once again.
Four games left before Districts.
Centennial didn’t stand a chance with Vallivue’s Ace in the circle. Makayla Cox was able to control the Centennial hitters with 14 K’s and a great defense behind her. Vallivue pulled off an 8 to 1 victory. The bats were back for Vallivue; Makayla helped her team on the offense side with a double and a triple tonight.
No pressure- Makayla takes the circle in the 5th with no outs; 2-0 count on the batter with bases loaded Boise leads 4-2.
Boise plays their best game ever but Vallivue was able to come from behind and win in the 7th. Makayla was given the ball in the 5th inning, no outs, bases loaded and a 2-0 count on the batter. She struck out the first 2 and allowed one run to come in on a passed ball before finishing with another K. Top of the line up does their job and gets on base. Makayla hits a line drive off the third basemen’s ankle and drives in two runs. Vallivue’s bats come to life and finish 9 to 5.
Whew! Not a pretty defensive game but we hang on to win 5-4 against Caldwell
Caldwell out to prove they could win did everything possible to put the ball in play. With 11 K’s in the circle Makayla led her team to their 15th straight victory.
Vallivue squashes Capital’s hope for second chance victory
A well coached Capital team makes several adjustments in anticipation of Vallivue’s pitching. Capital comes out playing small ball and threatens with players in scoring position. Vallivue pulls away with a victory from the pitching arm of Makayla Cox with 10k’s and some great defense. Vallivue shuts out Capital 11-0 in 5 innings.
Tough game against a hard hitting Eagle team.
Eagle with a 2 to 1 lead in the seventh tries to intentional walk Vallivue’s Brooke Simpson with two runners on. On ball three Brooke surprises everybody and hits a shot to right field scoring both base runners. Makayla Cox the winning pitcher ends the day with a 5 to 2 victory 15K’s, two hits and both runs unearned.
Makayla Cox pitches a perfect game
A tough victory for Vallivue Monday night at Mountain View as the two top ranked teams meet up. What was supposed to be a match up of two explosive high scoring offenses turned out to be a pitchers duel. Vallivue’s Makayla Cox comes out on top with a perfect seven inning game. Makayla finished with 17 K’s while Mountain View’s pitcher Brittany holds her own with 14 K’s and allowing only 4 hits. Vallivue’s offense was lead by Jessica Krohn with a two run homerun; Makayla 2-3 on the day with two doubles and a RBI single from Celsey Shipley. Final score Vallivue 3 Mountain View 0.
Beautiful weather for a double header.
Makayla Cox pitches a 12-0 shutout in the first game with some good defense behind her. Vallivue calls on Makayla in the third inning of the second game to help stop the momentum of Columbia’s offense. With bases loaded she pulls off three quick strike outs. Vallivue comes back from a five run deficit and scores 14 runs in the next three innings. The offense was lead off by Kaleen with her second homerun of the day. Makayla 2-2 in the second game hits an easy stand up double. With a bunch of confusion over a play at home plate Makayla sneaks in stealing home to end the game.
Makayla Cox pitched another shut out.
Makayla produce 20 of the 21 outs in seven innings against Timberline Wednesday night. From the circle she came away with 17 K’s against a good hitting team and threw three runners out at first. Vallivue’s bats finally came to life in the middle innings scoring nine runs.
Dear Makayla Cox ~
Congratulations, you have been selected and invited to play in the 2009 Sparkler College Placement All-Star Showcase Game. It is our intent to have 12 players per team (3 pitchers, 2 catchers, and 1 player at the remaining positions). You will play at least half the game at your primary and/or secondary position. Pitchers and catchers will split the innings, playing at least two innings and/or throw 30-50 pitches. Players were selected based on specific positions and it is our intent for each player to play their primary position. Therefore, please verify these positions (listed below) PRIOR...
Northwest Nazarene University
The camp was very organized and very fast pace; there was no time for standing around. If was fun working with the NNU players they shared some cool softball drills and also told us what college life was like.
