Abbi Frakes & The Texas Pirettes - Gold won their first two games on Friday against strong teams, Texas Peppers - Tanel & Oklahoma Force. They play again on Saturday at 3:00.
Come see Abbi pitch and watch our shortstop, Samantha Cobb, get dirty. Sam has signed to play with Univ. of Tulsa... |
 | Lady Cats cruise past Grand Prairie Fans that saw only the 12-0 final score in Game 1 of the bi-district series between Plano Senior and Grand Prairie may have thought the Lady Wildcats were in for a walk Saturday afternoon.
But Game 2 was remarkably similar to the series opener the night before.
Plano led 1-0 most of the way in Game 1 before exploding for 11 runs in the seventh inning. There was no such explosion Saturday afternoon, but the Lady Wildcats still advanced to the area playoff round after sweeping the Lady Gophers... |
 | VERSUS - Plano VS Grand Prairie Predictions Kevin’s Pick: Plano Senior
The only possible thing that could make Plano Senior lose a best-of-3 series to Grand Prairie is overconfidence.
The Lady Wildcats aren’t likely to encounter that problem, so allow me to be overconfident for them: Plano is a lock to win this series and I would be shocked if they didn’t do so via the sweep.
Plano won District 8-5A, they have an ace pitcher in junior Abbi Frakes, a feared slugger in Vonnie Martin and possibly the fastest human on the planet in... |
 | Lady Wildcats get time to savor dual crowns The Plano Senior softball team was to begin the playoffs today, but with the UIL-mandated postponements, the Lady Wildcats have a little extra time on their hands.
Plano can use that time to reflect on winning the outright District 8-5A championship and becoming the first team in program history to win back-to-back district titles.
“Anytime you win a district title it’s sweet,” said Cynthia Zea, Plano head coach. “But with this team and the way they did it; it doesn’t get any better than... |
 | Plano heads to top of district Plano West has company at the top of District 8-5A. With its 5-1 win over the Lady Wolves, Plano Senior inserted itself back into the running to be the district’s best.
“After Tuesday night’s game,” said Cynthia Zea, Plano head coach. “I didn’t think this team could possibly match the level of intensity they showed there. They were so fired up and they wanted to win so badly. I didn’t think it was possible but these girls came out and they were even better.”
The Lady Wildcats took the game... |
 | Plano Gains Share of First in Softball Freshman Mackenzie Velasquez and sophomore Taylor Jensen each went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Plano softball team to a 5-1 win over Plano West on Friday.
Plano (15-9-1, 3-1) and Plano West (15-8, 3-1) are now tied for first place with Wylie in District 8-5A. Plano West is No. 4 in SportsDay's 5A area rankings, and Plano is No. 8.
Macy Burr added two hits for Plano, and Abbi Frakes pitched a complete game. Plano scored twice in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead, then added two... |
 | Night of softball highlighted by Plano East win Plano East senior Taylor Jones and Plano Senior junior Abbi Frakes are two of the best softball pitchers in the Metroplex and both showed why Tuesday night as hits were scarce when the Lady Panthers and Lady Wildcats collided.
East got just one hit, a single to right field, but that was all the Lady Panthers needed as four Plano errors contributed to the Lady Panthers scoring twice in a 2-0 victory.
“It was one of those typical Plano-Plano East games,” said Cynthia Zea, Lady Wildcats head... |
 | Bryan Tournament We did really well in the Bryan tournament this past weekend! We went 5 and 1, and we got first place in the consolation bracket! It was a lot of fun. Our next game is this Tuesday night at Flower Found Marcus at 7 pm!! |
 | Plano Wins First 2 Scrimmages of the Season We played McKinney High and former state champions, Garland, this week and won against both teams with a score of 5-2. I started pitching both games and our 2 freshman pitchers each closed a game. Unfortunately, the ump had a very narrow strike zone and didn't call my screwball, so I walked 3 batters in the first game, but then I got in the groove and figured out what kind of pitches the ump liked. Our team did a great job and we are off to a great start.
We play Weatherford, Prosper and... |

 | Plano alone at the top After putting up three runs in the first inning and only allowing three baserunners through the first six innings, it appeared as though Plano Senior might cruise to a comfortable victory Thursday night against Plano East.
But as is often the case in Plano ISD intra-city showdowns, things didn’t end up being easy as the Lady Panthers loaded the bases with two out in the top of the seventh.
Luckily for the Lady Wildcats, they had sophomore Abbi Frakes in the circle to record the final out... |
 | Plano Sophmore Faces Another Big Challenge Plano coach Cynthia Zea isn't afraid to send sophomore Abbi Frakes to the pitcher's circle for the team's most important game of the regular season.
Plano (24-3, 11-0), the state's eighth-ranked 5A team, hosts Plano West (21-6, 9-2) at 7 p.m. Friday. It's a big cross-town rivalry, and with a win, Plano could do no worse than share the District 9-5A title.
Frakes (16-2) has already defeated state-ranked Plano East and Plano West, allowing a total of three runs. She began the week with 1.02... |
 | Plano softball team focuses on postseason success PLANO – For all the Plano softball team has accomplished, there is one thing in the backs of players' minds, especially the seniors.
That's what they haven't accomplished – winning a playoff round.
"We are motivated," said catcher Dana Orians, one of Plano's three four-year starters.
Plano is 22-3, 9-0 in District 9-5A. It has won 10 in a row and is ranked second in the area and ninth in the state. It has outscored district opponents, 85-4.
And the Lady Wildcats have coped with game... |
