FALL RIVER — Taunton High School used the long ball to spoil an excellent effort by Durfee High School Tuesday, defeating the Hilltoppers, 4-1, in a non-league girls softball game.
The Tigers received a solid pitching performance from Colleen Kirby and got back-to-back home runs from Jess Moitoza and Jess Kirby in the third inning, en route to their second victory in three games.

Taunton — Colleen Kirby has been nothing but brilliant for the Taunton High softball team since transferring from Tabor Academy.
Attleboro certainly got a taste of that on Thursday.
The junior right-hander improved her record to 3-0 on the season by pitching six shutout innings to help the Tigers defeat the Bombardiers, 7-1 at Jack Tripp Field.
“It’s been a good transition from Tabor Academy to here,” Kirby smiled “My teammates have helped me out a lot. Everything... |

Taunton — It was almost exactly a season ago when the Somerset softball team walked onto Jack Tripp Field and stunned Taunton.
On Saturday, it was a different story.
The Tigers broke open a close contest by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth and pulled out a 6-1 victory over the Blue Raiders.
“We knew it was going to be a good game so we got here early and swung the bats,” Taunton interim head coach Heather Sargent said. “They made a few mistakes... |

Taunton — It wasn’t exactly pretty for the Taunton High softball team on Friday.
But a win is a win, especially against Dartmouth — one of its Old Colony League opponents.
The Tigers pushed across the only runs of the contest by using small ball as they defeated the Indians, 2-0, in an early morning affair at Jack Tripp Field.
“We did not hit very well today,” Taunton interim head coach Heather Sargent said. “I think our at bats were sluggish in the zone. But... |

BRIDGEWATER — It was May 11, 2005 when the Bridgewater-Raynham softball team finally beat Taunton High.
It not only snapped a long Old Colony League winning streak, but it marked the first time in Trojans history that they’d ever beaten the Tigers.
On Tuesday, B-R seemed poised to win its second-ever matchup with Taunton after taking a 5-1 advantage.
But then suddenly, the roof caved in.

Taunton — It’s been a rough seven days for the Taunton High softball team.
First it had to endure tough games on the schedule this week, including Sunday night’s 14th annual City Championship against Coyle-Cassidy at Jack Tripp Field.
That was nothing compared to dealing with the pain of losing former teammate Cate Polgar, who tragically passed away on Monday.
It wasn’t easy for the Tigers.

DIGHTON — Sunday’s Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division I South Sectional quarterfinal contest came down Dighton-Rehoboth’s Bridget Landry.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Landry never expected the game’s outcome to hinge on her.
Little did she know, it would come down to her heroics.
Landry punched a single down the right field line in the bottom of the ninth inning to drive in courtesy runner Danielle Flores to give the No. 3 seeded Falcons a dramatic 3-2 victory over No. 6 seed Taunton.

 | Athlete of the Week April 27th 2007 Varsity Softball: Our fourth rookie Athlete of the Week in as many weeks, Colleen Kirby proved that she is a versatile player by making some great plays in right field against Dana Hall, posting a 4-0 win for the Lady Seawolves. She sealed another game vs. Exeter with a 13-4 win for Tabor without giving up any runs. She then went on to take the mound in the second game of the day against a powerful. Phillips - Andover, but it didn't stop her from digging deep and throwing the heat past Phillips-Andover to win the game 10-6. |

Athlete of the Month – April 2008
In many of the ball with goals sports it is often said “it is all about goaltending.” In the ball with bats sports the talk centers around pitching. The Tabor Varsity Softball team has quietly amassed an 8-1 record to this point in the season due in large part to a young and talented pitching staff. The Female Athlete of the month has an impressive 5 – 1 record. She has been dominant on the mound all season long. A shut out victory... |
