The Pumas from Ventura County were determined to play their hearts out at a national softball championship taking place in Las Vegas but on their way to the game something horrible happened.
Troopers say a suspected drunk driver in a silver car was speeding and slammed into the van carrying about 15 girls.
"Everyone was just freaking out we all were trying to get out of the van," says Stephanie Lord, an injured player.
A hand full of the players suffered cuts and... |

Q&A With Oaks Christian's Kiana Quolas Q&A WITH OAKS CHRISTIAN'S KIANA QUOLAS
The sophomore pitcher has made quite an impact in her first year since transferring from Oxnard High. Quolas has taken over in the pitching circle and hits in the thick of the line-up giving the Lions (21-3-1) a dual threat as they march toward the Div. III playoffs.
Last year you played at Oxnard High.
What was the reason for transferring to Oaks Christian?
The reason I transferred to Oaks is because they have a great academic program that will prepare me for college. The smaller classes make it easier to learn and focus on my work. Also, I... |
2009 Prep Softball Preview FIVE BURNING QUESTIONS
1.Will San Fernando Valley area team dethrone San Pedro for the City Section championship?
2.Can Hart win the Foothill League?
3.Who is going to win the Marmonte League?
4.Baillie Kirker set the state career homerun record last week. The Arizona-bound senior has 47 career homeruns, but with 20 games left how far will she extend it-or will she be passed up by Crenshaw of Los Angeles' Alia Williams or Lancaster's Shawna Wright?
5.Is Oaks Christian back?
Yes. After recording the most losses(13) in a season in its eight-year history last season, the Lions... |
Oaks Christian Softball tops Oak Park The Oaks Christian of Westlake Village softball team advanced to the Southern Section championship game four straight times from 2001-05, winning two titles and compiling 148 victories in the process.
The past three years have not been nearly as successful, but that might change this season.
If the Lions' 1-0 victory over Oak Park on Tuesday is any indication, they might be primed for another postseason run.
Kiana Quolas, a transfer from Oxnard, was the hero against the Eagles, delivering a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth to win it for Oaks Christian.

 | Synergy Selected as this Year's 12U Team of the Year Santa Clarita, CA.,- According to Dave Shier, the key to winning is to score the most runs and allow the fewest.
Pretty simple stuff, huh? Of course it isn’t always quite that easy, but it was for the 12-under Synergy ’93 softball team that won 2006 ‘Team of the Year’ award after winning the ASA national championships in Bloomington, Ind.
The team hails from Santa Clarita, Calif., and beat one of its backyard rivals, the Corona Angels in the finals. The Corona Angels had three players from Santa Clarita, and the two teams play often and sometimes attend the same middle schools, but... |
