First team
Pitchers
► Lyndey McCurry, sophomore, Prince Avenue
► Highlights: McCurry finished just her second season on the Lady Wolverines' squad with a 14-4 record and 1.38 ERA, leading Prince Avenue to a 23-5 record and a Region 8-A title. She also threw two perfect games and a no-hitter.
► Courtney Poole, sophomore, Oconee County
► Highlights: Poole was part of the Lady Warriors' 1-2 punch with Geri Ann Glasco and finished the season with a 0.70 ERA and a 12-5 record. She also drove in 18 runs while scoring 19 and hitting for a .302 average in Oconee County's 23-6-1 season.
► Erin Gibson, senior, Madison County
► Highlights: Gibson set a school record for wins in a season, finishing her final season with an 18-3 record. On top of a 1.31 ERA and 98 strikeouts, she hit for a .289 average and drove in 17 runs. Gibson was named the Region 8-AAAA pitcher of the year.
Infield
► Hannah Vaughn, junior, Oconee County
► Highlights: Vaughn, the Warriors' third baseman, was one of her team's most consistent hitters. She finished the year with a .375 batting average and a .491 on-base percentage. She also scored 29 runs, drove in 15 and stole eight bases.
► Kris Reynolds, senior, North Oconee
► Highlights: Reynolds split time as the Titans' first baseman and No. 2 pitcher but was a full-time team leader. An anchor in one of North Oconee's best infields, Reynolds finished the season No. 2 in RBIs on the team.
► Brie Floyd, junior, Prince Avenue
► Highlights: Floyd set four offensive school records in the Lady Wolverines' breakout season. She finished the year with a .366 batting average, .422 on-base percentage, .573 slugging percentage and 22 RBIs. She also committed just one error all season.
► Olivia Duncan, sophomore, Madison County
► Highlights: Named to the All-Region 8-AAAA first team, Duncan struck out just five times in 2009. She hit for a .348 average, 23 RBIs and scored 25 runs. The Red Raiders' second baseman also stole six bases as her team won the Region 8-AAAA title.
Outfield
► Samantha LaZear, sophomore, Madison County
► Highlights: LaZear led the Red Raiders in batting average in the team's run to the Region 8-AAAA title. She finished the year with a .388 average and a .500 on-base percentage. She scored 31 runs, stole 11 bases and was named to the All-Region 8-AAAA first team.
► Katie Garrett, senior, North Oconee
► Highlights: As the Titans' center fielder, Garrett showed great range with her exceptional speed, which was also a terror on the bases. Garrett replaced graduated Shea Wages as North Oconee's leadoff hitter and led the team in runs scored.
► Ansley Thompson, junior, Apalachee
► Highlights: In the Wildcats' run to a Region 8-AAAA runner-up and the second round of the state playoffs, Thompson scored 25 runs. She was also the team's most consistent hitter, leading the Lady Wildcats with a .349 batting average and 12 stolen bases.
Catcher
► Katie Bolin, senior, Madison County
► Highlights: Bolin was named Region 8-AAAA's
co-player of the year and became the school's leader in RBIs and triples. She finished the year with a .326 batting average and a .524 on-base percentage while driving in 31 runs and scoring 32.
Designated hitter
► Tara Dove, junior, Athens Christian
► Highlights: Dove led the Eagles in hitting with a .429 batting average and a .471 on-base percentage. On top of 27 hits, she drove in 10 runs and was 3 of 4 on stolen base attempts. She also pitched for Athens Christian, finishing the year with 94 strikeouts.
