Ninemire Elected into 2009 NFCA Hall of Fame Class
California softball head coach Diane Ninemire was announced as one of three members to be inducted into the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's 2009 Hall of Fame class on Saturday. The announcement was made at the NFCA's annual convention being held at the Marco Island Marriott Beach Resort in Marco Island, Florida.
Cal Softball to Host Winter Showcase
California softball coach Diane Ninemire announced that the Golden Bears will host a Winter Showcase designed for players who are looking to develop their skills for competitive softball. The Showcase (Jan. 31, 2009) is ideal for athletes focused on playing the game at the highest levels. Hitting, fielding, throwing, pitching, base running, and all other aspects of the game will be featured.

Olympic Q&A with Vicky Galindo
CalBears.com spoke to California alumna Vicky Galindo about her dream of competing in the Olympics. After breaking her arm on Feb. 19, 2008, she rebounded and was named to the 2008 U.S. Olympic team on March 28. A member of the national squad since 2005, the Union City, Calif., product has played second and third base for the United States. She also plays professionally for the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league along with former Cal teammate Kristina Thorson.

Drewrey, Hensley Named to Pac-10 Academic Team
Sophomore Marissa Drewrey and junior Savannah Hensley of the California softball team was chosen as a Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mentions, as announced by league commissioner Tom Hansen this week. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and either be a starter or significant contributor.

Cal earned its way to the Super Regional by defeating Fresno State, 7-6, in a deciding game seven in the Fresno Regional on Sunday, while the Gators coasted past Central Florida, 10-0, in their game seven (Gainesville Regional) also on Sunday.

California advanced to its third ever NCAA Super Regional after a 7-6 deciding game seven victory over the Fresno State Bulldogs in nine innings in the Fresno Regional on Sunday evening at Bulldog Stadium. Cal (43-25) travels to Gainesville to take on the top-seeded Florida Gators (65-3), May 23-24. The NCAA went to a Super Regional format beginning in 2005.

The Fresno State Bulldogs avoided elimination and forced a game seven after their 3-2 win over California on Sunday afternoon in the Fresno Regional. Game seven will start approximately at 3:41 p.m. The winner of game seven advances to Gainesville to face the top-seeded Florida Gators in the NCAA Super Regional.
